Homecoming and beyond: Explore Cape while you’re here

It’s no secret we’re fans of Southeast Missouri State University’s homecoming. If you’re in doubt, check out this list of our top five reasons to attend. Sadly, the game doesn’t last all weekend, but that doesn’t mean you should cut your stay in Cape Girardeau short. A lot has changed in the last few years, and there’s plenty to do.

Explore the new eateries
Just this year, around 10 new restaurants have opened in Cape and all bring a pizzazz of culinary flavors. From Caribbean soul food to southern-style barbecue to rooftop dining and plant-based fare, there’s a high chance you’ll discover a new favorite dish.

Shop today’s and yesterday’s trends
Cape’s shopping scene is thriving. Take a stroll downtown after the game and see for yourself. You’ll find several boutiques that feature the hottest fashion trends and a few that curate impressive collections of vintage apparel. Don’t skip antique shopping – you never know what treasure waits inside.

Get inspired
Each year, the sculptures along Broadway switch up, and nearly every month the exhibits at local galleries change. Head home with a unique piece of art commemorating your homecoming experience and the friends you reconnected with.

Conquer your fears
It’s the last weekend before Halloween, so you might as well celebrate. Cape Girardeau offers a couple of haunted attractions that are sure to get your blood flowing. Journey through a maze of frights at the Haunted Hall of Horror or explore what darkness brings to a seemingly forgotten neighborhood in the woods at The Black Forest Haunted Ghost Town.

Cape Girardeau’s greatest strength is how much it offers without traffic or lengthy drives. Many eateries and attractions are within walking distance of each other, and when a drive is required, it’s often no longer than 15 minutes. You’ll spend more time enjoying yourself and less time on the road. Find a place to stay here.
