Even if you’re not a former Southeast student, the university’s homecoming events are worth experiencing. 

Here are our top five favorite things about Southeast Missouri State University’s homecoming, scheduled for Oct. 13, 2018.

5. The Entire City Gets Involved

With the university situated near downtown boutiques and restaurants, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who isn’t sporting red and black.  Many businesses throughout the town have limited -time discounts to celebrate the weekend, but if you plan on eating at your favorite Cape restaurant, we recommend making a reservation so you’re sure to find a seat!

4. There’s Fun for the Whole Family

Kids of all ages love seeing Southeast on parade.  between the candy, free swag, variety of parade floats and energy throughout the crowd, families have a blast from morning to the end of the big game.  Be sure to find Rowdy for a photo.  Pro tip: Grab some face tattoos before the photo to maximize the memories.

3.  The Massive Tailgate Party

We advise against starting a diet anytime around homecoming. With so many grilled brats, hot dogs and burgers, you’ll have tons of delicious main courses to hold you over.  And if you love chips and dip or adult beverages, those will be around too.

2. Reuniting with Old Friends

One of the best things about homecoming is that it brings so many people back to Cape Girardeau.  No matter where they’ve ended up around the world, many graduates make sure to spend at least one weekend at the campus where it started.  If you attended Southeast Missouri State University, don’t miss the chance to reconnect with your favorite professors and friends.  Relive the glory days!

1. The Big Game

What’s a homecoming without an action-packed football game? In Cape Girardeau, we’ll never know.  Every year – win or lose – Southeast football fans have a blast rooting for the Redhawks. The excitement as enthusiastic supporters fill the stands with howls of pride is nearly palpable.  There’s no better place to be if you want a sense of belonging!
