Black Business Month

August is Black Business Month and Cape is fortunate to be home to several. We will feature a few here but all deserve recognition. Remember to always support our local businesses when making purchase decisions. According to Fortune Magazine, recent census data shows there are 3.12 million Black-owned businesses in the US, generating $206 billion in annual revenue and supporting 3.56 million US jobs. That equals millions of people filling the needs of our local communities and creating jobs for workers of all backgrounds.

The Corner Grocery Store, owned by Robert and Mary Gentry in downtown Cape has become a staple for fresh homemade chocolates, hot meals, every day grocery needs, and fantastic box lunches for a crowd.  Their daily specials rotate between fried chicken, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings and don’t forget about the “World’s Best” grilled cheese.

Oh, but the chocolates! Turtles, Kentucky Bourbon Balls, Peanut Butter De-lites, Rice Krispie Pops, chocolate covered strawberries, and more!Stop in to be greeted with a friendly smile and delicious food!

Be Chosen Academy, owned by Kweku Arkorful is an athletic training business and fitness facility offering group classes including HIIT Boxing, Multicultural Dance Boot Camp and Athlete Training in addition to private and semi-private training sessions. Born in Ghana, Africa and former SEMO football player, Kweku is serious about fitness and passionate about encouraging others.
