Stay Cool with Inside Activities and Cool Treats!

Welcome to southeast Missouri in summer. It’s hot. And outdoor activities aren’t at the top of our lists. However, instead of sitting inside the house, you can still find things to do around town. Search for indoor activities, spend time outdoors when it’s cooler in the evening, and chill out with frozen treats like ice cream or sno cones.

Hopping in a pool when it’s hot outside is a great idea!Have you been to the brand new Jefferson Aquatic Center? This impressive family friendly indoor pool features zero depth entry, sprinkle play for little ones and a slide that extends outside the building and returns back inside. And of course, the water park comes to mind when we think of kids, but how about adults? Cape Splash offers adult-only“River Walking” for a low-impact water workout in the lazy river through August Monday – Thursday mornings 9:15-10:45am and Monday and Wednesday evenings 6:30-7:45pm. You can walk against the current or with the current – choose your workout!

After working out, how about a frozen reward? Sno cones, custard and ice cream cools you from the inside out. Luckily, Cape has lots of choices! On the west side of town, Simply Swirled has your frozen yogurt cravings (even some non-dairy) with hundreds of topping options while Sugar Chic Creamery downtown will happily serve up one of 16 ice cream flavors with their famous waffle chip.Speaking of chips, they also now have ice cream nachos. Oh, and for adults only, daquiris anyone? Good Time Daiquiris in the Town Plaza has 9 flavors swirling and ready to entice you, like peach bellini and cotton candy. If you need some to take home, they can do that, too!

For another air-conditioned option, how about bowling at West Park Lanes? With 32 lanes and food and drink onsite, family fun is right around the corner. And, don’t forget about Cosmic Bowling Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm – midnight!
