Nothing captures the Christmas season quite like the twinkle of lights, and Cape Girardeau is the perfect place to grab your favorite hot beverage, put on some carols and enjoy a driving tour of beautiful holiday displays. From neighborhood stand-outs to businesses that go all-out to downtown nostalgia, here’s some of our favorite Christmas lighting stops:
Downtown Cape
The annual tree lighting ceremony held at the beginning of December officially kicked off the Christmas season in Downtown Cape Girardeau, and there’s always a lot to experience during the month, including holiday lights and unique shop window displays. It’s well worth a drive (or, even better, a stroll!) through the downtown streets to enjoy the best the area has to offer during the holidays.
The Glenn House
Included in the Downtown holiday experiences is the Glenn House, which offers special holiday tours of this historic Cape Girardeau home, all decked out for the season. You can learn more about the tours happening now at 315 S. Spanish Street, and other downtown events here.
Nip Kelley Equipment Company
Once you’ve taken in the holiday sights downtown, turn onto Sprigg Street for a cruise past Nip Kelley Equipment Company at 41. N. Sprigg. This long-time Cape Girardeau business has a history of going all-out with their holiday displays, and this year is no exception.
Festive Neighborhoods
Many of Cape Girardeau’s residents channel their inner Clark Griswold and go all-out with outdoor seasonal décor. We’re sharing two stand-out neighborhoods that are definitely worth your attention. First: drive by the 2600th block of Melrose Avenue in Cape Girardeau, followed by a trip along the 2000th block of Perryville Road to check out some truly spectacular holiday displays.
Cape Girardeau County Park
Of course, no Christmas lights tour would be complete without a cruise through Cape County’s North Park Holiday of Lights displays. Businesses and individuals decorate the route with lighted displays around the county park lake – making for a perfect ending to any lighting tour.
