Guide to the Tunes at Twilight opening night

On Friday nights in the summer, Cape Girardeau community members gather in Ivers Square near the Common Pleas Courthouse, laughing with familiar neighbors and greeting new ones. Musicians in the gazebo accompany crickets with blues, country, pop and almost any other genre you can think of, depending on the night.

It’s sometimes high energy, sometimes peaceful. But it’s always an opportunity to make memories, to connect, to discover the essence of this river town.

Ivers Square has been kind of quiet throughout winter, but it’s time to kick things into high gear. The first 2019 Tunes at Twilight event is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17.

It’s all about blues and brews with musician Paul Childers, a visit from the Blue Angels and craft beer samples from select local breweries.

The evening’s headliner – Paul Childers – is known for breaking the rules when it comes to musical genres. Blending R&B, soul and even pop sounds, he’s been hailed as a top Nashville showman and guitarist. Childers’ original songs bring something new to Tunes at Twilight and are sure to excite his audience.

Sticking with the blues theme, the Blue Angels will be on-site. This elite group of 16 world-class Navy pilots attempts in-flight stunts few dare to try. Don’t miss your opportunity to meet them before they take flight at the Cape Girardeau Air Festival

But nothing goes better with a summer night than cold beer. We’re welcoming representatives from local craft beer breweries, who will hand out samples to attendees 21 and over. It’s the perfect complement to an evening with good friends and great music.
