Do you want to volunteer in our community but aren’t sure where to start? There are many nonprofit organizations relying on volunteers to further their mission. Even short-term help for an event or specific need provides much-needed help. Plus, it’s rewarding to give back! Whatever you’re passionate about, there are opportunities to get involved – as an individual, a group, or a family. Here are a few examples:

Be a welcoming committee for Cape! VisitCape is always looking for “Paddlewheeler” volunteers to act as greeters or guides for the multiple riverboat dockings along the Mississippi River. Greeters welcome visitors as they depart to start the day, and guides are tasked with riding the motorcoach buses around town and leading a hop-on/hop-off tour from a binder of tour information and key points. There are also annual events we utilize Paddlewheelers at, such as the upcoming Eclipse Expo, the Riverfront Fall Festival, Juneteenth to staff a welcome table, handing out restaurant guides and visitor guides to those interested.

Catholic Ministry Food Pantry – distributing food

SEMO Pets – dog walking, cat socializing, cleaning the shelter, grooming dogs

United Way of SEMO – Salvation Army Food Pantry, Red Cross blood transportation and blood drives, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children), Read to Succeed, and more
