3-Stop Hop

In this edition of the 3-stop hop, we are taking you to historic downtown Cape Girardeau – to Bon Bons of Cape Girardeau for lunch, followed by a stroll to enjoy the Mississippi River and the Riverfront Mural and a shopping stop at Annie-Em’s.

First our stop – lunch! Bon Bon’s of Cape Girardeau on Water Street offers delicious food and a beautiful and tasty array of fresh baked goodies, not to mention the impressive selection of teas. Start off with some crunchy cheese curds (fried Wisconsin cheese) which are hard to find around here! With a selection of salads, burgers and sandwiches, it’s hard to make a choice so you’ll have to come back to try them all. Some unique offerings include the “Oh KALE yeah!” and “Nice to MEAT you” power bowls and it’s not just anywhere you can get a Reuben! Be sure to watch their Facebook page for daily specials and their “Why Worry Wednesday” deals for an easy way to have hearty food at home for your family. For dessert, the options are endless – recent choices include raspberry vanilla chocolate cake, Nutter Butter cookies, chocolate swirl shortbread, Linzer cookies and macarons in flavors like chamomile, orange, strawberry and cinnamon toast crunch.

After lunch, cross the street, walk over the railroad tracks, and enter the giant concrete gates to the Mississippi River where you’ll see the impressive Riverfront Mural. Each letter has a different landmark or feature of Cape Girardeau. For example, the “C” showcases Cape Public Schools with images of current and past schools. Every notable landmark is depicted in the letters, including the casino, Southeast Missouri State University, Trail of Tears State Park and more. Once you take some time to inspect each letter and identify local landmarks, it’s time to shop!

A very short walk away is Annie-Em’s at Home – full of gorgeous home décor, with both seasonal and year-round accents to keep your home stylish and updated. The charming boutique also has fabulous cookbooks, sparkling jewelry, and delicious teas, as well as cocktail mixers and appetizers from Stonewall Kitchens. Currently, the store is full for the fall season, with gilded pumpkins, pumpkin dulce-scented candles and apple pie chai tea. As you enjoy Annie-Em’s, think about those you need upcoming gifts for…. or treat yourself to a present!
