‘Tis the Season in Cape Girardeau: Holiday Happenings 2017

The holidays are here in Cape Girardeau! We’ve gathered local holiday happenings and Christmas classics in one spot so you can get seriously festive this holiday season.

Christmas at the Glenn House

Christmas at the Glenn House opens for their annual holiday tours the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 24th, and you can wander through this beautifully decorated Victorian home every Saturday and Sunday afternoon the last weekend in November and every Saturday and Sunday in December from 1 – 4 p.m. (November 24, 25 and 26, December 2, 3, 9,10, 16, 17, 27, 28, 29, 30).

See the home aglow at a Candlelight Tour from 5 – 8 p.m. December 8th and 16th.  Already toured during a Christmas past? The decorations are entirely refreshed every year, making this a Christmas tradition that never gets old.  Don’t miss cookies, hot chocolate and apple cider in the carriage house after your tour.

Yule Log Cabin

Christmas magic surrounds this fantastical cabin in the woods about 25 minutes south of Cape Girardeau, close to River Ridge Winery. Frasier fir trees and wreaths scent the air outside, and stepping into the cabin will take your breath away; ornaments adorn dozens of themed trees, garlands and more ornaments, nutcrackers, angels, Santas, elves and peppermints cover every available surface. The Yule Log Cabin is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and is closed on Christmas day.

Hutson’s Window

Hutson’s Fine Furniture has been gathering a festive crowd since 1960 for the Thanksgiving unveiling of their holiday window. The window is in the capable hands of a third generation of Hutsons and is available from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. every day from Thanksgiving through Christmas for viewing. Little ones glue noses to the chilly glass to gaze at Santa’s workshop, an elves motorcycle shop or other Christmasy scenes, as the display changes every year. While you’re taking in Hutson’s window downtown, take a drive down Main and Broadway streets to see the new Christmas lights!

Cape County Park Light Display

Cheery lights brighten Cape County Park North every year from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. The light display began with 11 displays in 1987 as a cooperative effort to provide a spot for Cape Girardeau citizens to decorate together for the holidays. The entire county pitches in to showcase displays. Grab a hot chocolate and bundle the whole family in the car for a slow cruise around the park to admire favorites from years past and new displays.

Meier Horse Shoe Pines Farm

Add some fresh greenery to your holiday decorations at Meier Horse Shoe Pines Farm, located just a few minutes from Cape Girardeau on the outskirts of Jackson, MO.  The shop features fresh greenery wreaths, garlands and more, and you can hop aboard the carriage pulled by the Belgian horses (“the boys”) to pick out your very own piece of Christmas magic from their 14 acres of Scotch and White pine trees.
