Spring has arrived and the calendar at VisitCape.com is packed with seasonal fun!  Here’s a round up of April happenings in Cape Girardeau.  

Easter Activities

Get a picture of your little one with the Peter Cottontail himself and hunt Easter eggs at the Osage Centre’s Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday April 4 at 9 a.m.

Easter Egg Hunts, Games, Races & Prizes plus the Easter Bunny will be at Lazy L Safari Park’s Safari Egg Hunt at the Zoo on Saturday April 4 from Noon-4 p.m.


The Arts

Stroll through downtown galleries at First Friday with the Arts; it takes place the first Friday of every month and is a great way to see what’s new on the local art scene.  

The River City Player’s Community Theatre presents “Any Body Home?” April 9 – 12, with some shows featuring a dessert buffet.  

Spring into Dance at the River Campus April 16 – 19 with Southeast Missouri State University faculty, student and guest choreographers in a variety of styles.  

Cape Girardeau is on the big screen in the brand new indie film Love Chronicles of the Cape, showing at Rose Theatre April 17 – 19 and 24 – 26.  

Artists panels, round robin drawing challenges and much more fill the schedule at Cape Comic Con, Friday April 17, Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19.  

Hearts and Beats is hosting the All Things Art Festival on Saturday, April 18 at Cup ‘N Cork with art showcases, an open mic event and special performances.  

The Russian National Ballet Theatre presents a tale of royal intrigue and love in the magical kingdom of Sleeping Beauty on Friday, April 14. 

Hear one of the greatest pieces of music ever written on Monday, April 27 when Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is performed at the River Campus.

Daisy Meredith is the first girl from a public elementary school allowed access to the hallowed halls of Grangewood School for Young Ladies in 1927 Great Britain; watch Daisy Pulls it Off at the River Campus April 29 – May 3.  

Food and Wine

Sample wines from dozens of local wineries while you listen to live music and munch on appetizers at the 14th Annual Community Wine Festival Friday, April 10. 

The Cape Farmer’s Market is kicking off market season on Thursday, April 16 at West Park Mall’s back parking lot.  24 weekly vendors + additional seasonal stands will have fresh local produce, freshly baked goodies and more. Catch the Cape Farmer’s Market every Thursday afternoon through mid-November.

Enjoy fine wine perfectly paired with a cheesy treat at each of the wineries on the Mississippi River Hills Wine Trail during A Taste of Cheese, April 25 and 26. 

More Local Happenings

Cheer on the Cape Roller Girls at their season opener on Saturday, April 4 at the Arena Building!  

Animal care volunteers at the Nature Center are feeding the reptiles, amphibians and fishes a delicious smorgasbord of crickets, worms, minnows and more at the Feeding Frenzy on Thursday April 9, and you’re invited!  Also at the nature center on this date, learn more about Black Bears at Nature Center at Night: Be Bear Aware.

t’s a bird, it’s a plane, no wait…it is a bird!  Come learn about the birds of Missouri and their amazing abilities at Flights of Fancy at the cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center on Saturday, April 18.  

Rock out to a near perfect reproduction of a live Beatles concert (down to John Lennon’s gum chewing habit on stage!) when The Return plays at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau on Saturday, April 18.  

Ozzie Smith will be at the Show Me Center on Monday, April 20 as part of Southeast Speaker’s Series.  

The rural communities of Southeast Missouri invite you to join them as they celebrate spring with good food, festivals, folk music, scenic vistas and more at the Mississippi River Valley Scenic Drive April 24 and 25.  

Astonishing performers, awe-inspiring athletes and amazing animals from around the globe have been assembled in one place providing a riveting display of unimaginable proportions at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey – Built to Amaze, April 28 and 29 at the Show Me Center.
