Famous Visitors and Trading Posts: Stepping Back in Time at the Red House

The Red House is a replica of the original home built in 1798 by Pierre Louis de Lorimier, Cape Girardeau’s community founder. This French colonial structure opened in 2003 and helps visitors see what life was like in the early 1800’s in Cape Girardeau. Anne Hutson is the Docent Director, and she told me more about this unique property. Tell me more about the history that inspired building this replica, Anne. The Red House was the home and governmental center of Cape Girardeau in the early 1800’s. It was the seat of g... Read More

On Their Way to Heaven Raising H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks: Nunsense

When I stepped inside the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre last night for the final dress rehearsal of Nunsense, I was transported to the cozy gym-a-torium at Mt. St. Helens, run by the illustrious Little Sisters of Hoboken.  If you ever attended Catholic School (like I did, and my Grandma who also enjoyed the show with me last night), you’ll feel an instant sense of familiarity with the scuffed gym floor and statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph.  The Rust Flexible Theatre is such a fun space to enjoy Nunsense in... “New” Tech: Stepping Back in Time at the Glenn House

Built in 1883, the Glenn House is a Victorian home turned museum located in downtown Cape Girardeau. The house was home to David and Lula Glenn until 1915, after which it had several owners. Eventually the Erlbacher family donated the house to the Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau with the intention for the home to be saved and turned into a museum. This is the part where Tom and Donna Grantham come in, as Tom is the current President of that Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau which owns and operates the Glenn Ho... Read More
