4th of July Festivities
The morning of the 4th of July kicks off with the Cape Riverfront Market. Head over to Jackson to take in the antique car show, and don’t miss the patriotic living history encampment at Fort D. The Great American 4th of July fun gets rolling at Arena Park at 6:45 with the Cape Municipal Band playing patriotic tunes, Judge Limbaugh presiding over a naturalization ceremony, the presentation of the Spirit of America Award followed by the big firework show at 9:15 p.m.. Special Happenings
One of Cape Girardeau’s biggest running events is back with the 6th annual Hoops for Life 5K Run/Walk and 1.6 mile power walk on Saturday, July 25 at Kiwanis Park. Join them for a great time, community spirit and support the Children’s Brain Tumor Program at Stanford University.
Celebrate wine, BBQ and music along the Mississippi River Hills Wine Trail with a Taste of Wine and Country July 18 and 19.
Nature
Talk a walk highlighting Missouri’s majestic shade trees and their unique features for identification on a Shade Tree Walk at the Nature Center, Saturday July 11.
Drop by the Nature on Thursday, July 16 to see them feed the reptiles, amphibians and fish at Feeding Frenzy. Later that day, turtles will be the focus of the show at Nature Center at Night.
Saturday, July 18 you can investigate insects at Insectigations at the Nature Center.
Music
Still making music in its’ 115th season, the Cape Municipal Band performs every Wednesday evening in July at the Capaha Band Shell.
Faithful bluegrass traditionals and blues-infused originals peppered with German songs, Gospel and folk tunes are featured by the Matchsellers, live at Cup ‘N Cork on Friday, July 17!
The Temptations Review is coming to Isle Casino Cape Girardeau on Saturday, July 25.
Markets
Local farmers markets are overflowing with fresh local produce – catch the Cape Farmer’s Market every Thursday from Noon – 5 p.m. behind West Park Mall, and the Cape Riverfront Market on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. – noon at 35 S. Spanish Street.
Your kiddos can learn about how healthy food grows at the Marketeers Club, offered by the Cape Riverfront Market as a free program. Marketeers Club dates for July include July 11, July 18 (special bonus club date at the Red Star Garden!) and July 25.
The Arts
A monthly favorite, First Friday with the Arts, happens Friday July 3 at local art galleries and shops.
Community theatre the River City Players presents “Sleuth” on July 9-12, with dinner and dessert buffet shows available.
Learn about “How the French Shaped the Mississippi Valley” with Dr. Frank Nickell at the Red House on Saturday, July 11.
Meet Darlene Revell at the Nature Center as she shares her nature photography exhibit, “Habitats and Hideouts,” on Saturday July 11.
The Cape River Heritage Museum hosts another installment of their Speaker ‘s Series on Saturday July 18.
“Jack and the Beanstalk” will enthrall at the Cape Public Library on Saturday, July 18 as the magical scenes come to life under the expert showmanship of master puppeteer Richard Elsenpeter.
