Broadway Biergarten

818 Broadway St.

The Broadway Biergarten is unique in two ways: One, they have over 150 craft beers and hard ciders for a wide variety of tastes. Two, they have a 1-pound imported Bavarian pretzel on the menu. Yes, a full pound of pretzel served with a creamy beer cheese and sweet Bavarian mustard. This pretzel is definitely a snack to share with someone, and if you’re still hungry, the boneless wings in the classic sauce are an instant favorite.

Insider Tip: If you aren’t a fan of beer or cider, ask for one of the Sprecher’s sodas. The root beer and cream are wonderful, but the Orange Dream is perfection served in a frosty mug.

Broussard’s

120 North Main St.

Broussard’s is one of Cape Girardeau’s most notable downtown restaurants, and the only place you can find real Cajun food in Southeast Missouri. To get a real feel of Louisiana cooking, Felix’s Sampler is a go-to appetizer for sharing, or make it a meal for yourself. Felix’s Sampler is  a Cajun buffet of alligator tails, fried crawfish and clams served with broussard’s specialty cocktail sauce for dipping.

Insider Tip: If you still have room for dessert after your meal, ask for the homemade bread pudding served with rum sauce. It’s the perfect combination of sweet, savory, and satisfying.

Burrito-Ville

913 Broadway St.

Burrito-Ville is not your typical Mexican fast food place. Here you’ll find the usuals like tacos and nachos, but this is also home to some of the craziest and biggest burritos you’ve ever seen. What really makes this place unique, though, is their most popular selling item that you won’t find anywhere else: Dirty Fries.

Dirty Fries are simple: crinkle-cut fries cover in mozzarella cheese, topped with your choice of meat or rice and black beans, smothered in hot, white queso cheese. Delicious, filling, and life changing. If you haven’t had a Dirty Fry yet, you’re really missing out.

Insider Tip: Burrito-ville has some of the best iced tea in town. Make sure to ask about their fruit flavor of the day!

Minglewood Brewery

121 Broadway St.

Port Cape

19 North Water St.

Port Cape is a real treat for history buffs and barbecue fanatics alike. This Civil War landmark is home to Cape Girardeau’s authentic hickory smoked barbecue and great homemade-style dishes. If there’s one thing Port Cape has done to make themselves unique it’s making an awesome barbecue sandwich, more specifically, their Brisket and Pimento. The thick-sliced hickory smoked brisket already sounds heavenly, but by adding some southern-styled pimento cheese and putting it together between Texas toast makes it the dream sandwich of the south. Pair this sandwich with one of Port Cape’s famous comfort food sides and you’ll understand why it’s a Cape Girardeau favorite.

Insider Tip: Downstairs is Port Cape’s very own ice cream shop where you can find 16 old-fashioned, homemade flavors. The walk-up window makes a nice quick stop while walking along the riverfront.
