The Month Ahead in Cape Girardeau: November 2014

Here’s the scoop on the goings-on in Cape Girardeau throughout the month of November.

On Stage

All aboard for Anything Goes, winner of three 2011 Tony® Awards, on November 1! Peppering this comedy are some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards, including “I Get a Kick out of You,” “You’re the Top,” and of course, “Anything Goes.”

Macbeth‘s tragic world comes to live November 1 and 6-9 in Shakespeare’s classic tale of corruption.

The River City Players present Dracula at Port Cape, with your choice of dinner theatre or dessert buffet on November 6-9.

The 15th Annual Standing Ovation Concert is on Sunday, November 9  in Shuck Recital Hall at the River Campus.  Featured performers include the Southeast Trumpet Quartet, Kevin Hampton and Jackie Edwards-Henry, Southeast String Quartets and the Suzuki Violin Ensemble.

Clarinetist Andrea Grassi travels to Missouri and brings us a concert featuring a Brahms clarinet sonata, and a Mozart quintet for clarinet and strings at Chamber Music Sundays at Three on November 16.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny will be the keynote speaker for the first annual Arrow Leadership and Success Summit at the Show Me Center on November 17.

Fall for Dance features the work of Southeast Dance faculty, students and guest artists, and runs  November 20 – 23.

On November 21, the event center at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau will host A Christmas Concert Experience: The Music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  

Food

Enjoy fine wine perfectly paired with a unique holiday treat at Hemman Winery, Hunter Valley Winery, Apple Creek Vineyard and Winery and The Barrens Winery on November 8 and 9 at A Taste of the Holidays

Fresh local produce can still be found at the Cape Farmer’s Market on Thursday afternoons, running through November 20.  

Fun for the Whole Family

Fall Full of Fun at Lazy L Safari Park continues through November 2, get your fill of this beautiful season with down on the farm activities, a pumpkin patch and more.

Can you solve the animal mysteries at Nature Center at Night: Who Goes There?  Piece together clues and find out who lives at the nature center at this free event on November 11.

Drop in and play at International Games Day at the Cape Public Library on November 15.  Over 1,000 libraries are participating in this free event, be a part of the fun!  

Use paper in a creative three dimensional form at Family Days at the Museum: Paper Sculpture Day on November 15.  It’s free!    

Holiday Shopping & Events

Join us (with Christmas shopping list in tow) for a city-wide weekend of arts and crafts shows, with three different shows filling four venues throughout Cape Girardeau.  The 19th Annual Crafts, Gifts and Collectible Show takes place at Notre Dame High School on November 21, 22 and 23, and the 44th Annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Extravaganza takes place at the Osage Centre and the Show Me Center November 22 and 23.  Also on November 22 and 23, the River Valley Craft Club Christmas Expo will take place at the Arena Building.

Old Town Cape is hosting a Small Business Saturday event in downtown Cape Girardeau on Saturday, November 29.  Each purchase you make at participating retailers earns you a stamp or sticker in your downtown passport and enters you to win a downtown gift basket!  

Christmas is coming to the Glenn House!  This handsomely restored Victorian home will be festively decorated for Christmas.  The halls are decked in the Carriage House too, and there you’ll find Christmas cookies, coffee and cider. Christmas at the Glenn House is open for tours November 28, 29 and 30 and every Saturday and Sunday in December.

Bring some hot chocolate and a cozy blanket to watch the Holiday Parade of Lights on November 30!  All floats will be lit up and playing Christmas music.
