Mark your calendars for events in Cape Girardeau throughout August!

The Cape Riverfront Market (Saturday mornings) and the Cape Farmer’s Market (Thursday afternoons) are both going strong all month long with local produce and other goodies.

See what’s new in the local art scene at First Friday Arts, this evening from 5 – 9 p.m.

Experience the world through the eye(s) of an insect at Insect Insights, August 2nd at the Nature Center, free for all ages!

Also on August 2nd, enjoy singing, dancing, learning and laughing at the Cape Public Library’s Fizz, Boom, Read & Sing.

The Cape Municipal Band performs music under the stars at the Capaha Park Bandshell on Wednesday evenings throughout August at 7:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket to this long-standing community event.

Here’s your chance for unparalleled views of the Mississippi River! Float down the Mighty Mississippi from Trail of Tears State Park to Red Star Access in downtown Cape Girardeau with the Missouri Conservation Department. Be sure to attend the mandatory safety meeting on Friday, August 15th to be prepped for the float on Saturday, August 16th. Bring your own canoe or borrow one from the Department of Conservation!

On Saturday August 16th, watch up close as hummingbirds are fitted with an ID band that gathers important data at Hummingbird Banding.

Tunes at Twilight revs up for its Fall season with Dennis Stroughmatt and the Creole Spirit on Friday, August 15th! These free concerts at the Courthouse Gazebo start at 6:30 and take place every Friday until September 19th. Michael Prysock will perform on Friday, August 22nd and Keith Sykes takes the stage Friday, August 29th.

Join us on Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, August 26th from 5:30-8:30 for an evening of colorful Corvettes, festivities and fun at Corvettes in Cape! Hundreds of Corvettes will be parked along Main Street in historic downtown Cape Girardeau, including local cars and cars participating in the Corvette Caravan. The Corvette Caravan is spending the night in Cape Girardeau as they journey to Bowling Green, KY to the National Corvette Museum. Here’s how you can enjoy this once in a lifetime chance to see so many Corvettes in downtown Cape Girardeau:

5:30: Find a spot and and watch local Vettes cruise down Broadway from Capaha Park to South Main.
6:00: See Vettes from the Cruise up close!
6:30: Corvettes from the Corvette Caravan will start to arrive downtown for a display along Main Street.
Even more free fun: Oldies tunes by Hot Rod Nights, Fatal Vision Goggles by the Cape Police Department, Seat Belt Convincer by the Highway Patrol, Nascar Simulator by Auto Tire & Parts.
