Spring in our river city is a magical season, with a green haze and blooms over all the trees, flowers popping up all around and clear blue skies overhead.  Soak up the season with these springy things to do throughout the area!

Winery Weather

April Showers

April showers putting a damper on your fun?  Duck into Crisp Museum and spend an afternoon checking out early life along the Mississippi, or take a tour of the four-story, pre-Civil War stone and brick mill at Bollinger Mill State Historic Site.

May Flowers

Pinecrest Azalea Gardens is a pretty 20 minute drive north of Cape Girardeau.  This stunning spot has over 3,000 azalea plants and 300,000+ jonquils and daffodils blooming in the spring.  This free drive-through garden is at it’s prime the last few weeks of April and the first few weeks of May.  Closer to Cape, the Rose Garden inside Capaha Park has been a nationally accredited Rose Display Garden since 1955 and showcases dozens of varieties of roses. 

Farmer’s Markets

The countdown is on for the spring openings of  Cape Girardeau’s two farmer’s markets! The Cape Farmers Market kicks off on Thursday, April 21 and the Cape Riverfront Market gets rolling on Saturday, May 7.

Special Spring Events

The Mississippi River Hills Wine Trail is hosting a spring girls weekend getaway April 23 and 24.   Just 30 miles south of Cape Girardeau, Charleston has their 48th annual Dogwood Azalea Festival April 14 – 17 that is well worth the drive. Right here in downtown Cape Girardeau, uncover new-to-you treasures at a Tailgate Flea Market on Sunday May 1.
