Shipyard Music Festival + Bollinger Mill Fall Festival

Friday, Sept. 27 kicks off an event-packed weekend, particularly if you like wailing guitar music or historical buildings – or both. The Shipyard Music Festival and Bollinger Mill Fall Fest are the perfect family-friendly activities to start a spectacular autumn season.

Cape Girardeau’s premier music festival is bigger and better than last year. Eleven bands will take the stage across two days, with Jukebox the Ghost and Colony House headlining. But music is just the start. Shipyard serves as a celebration of the Cape Girardeau community, with more than 2,000 attendees, visual arts, interactive experiences and some of the best food and beverages in the area.

Setting Shipyard apart from other music festivals is its family friendliness. Kids are welcome, and ages 10 and under enjoy free admission if they’re with an adult who has a ticket. They won’t get bored, with plenty of activities and excitement to hold their attention throughout the festival. And with so many new sights, sounds and tastes, you won’t get bored either.

Bollinger Mill is one of this area’s treasured historic buildings. Constructed around the Civil War, the structure was used to grind wheat and corn into flour. And the Fall Festival gives you an opportunity to go back in time with a tour of all four floors. While you’re there, stroll across the nearby Burfordville Covered Bridge, one of just four covered bridges left in Missouri.

But it wouldn’t be a true fall festival without food and fun. Just a couple of the activities going on include scarecrow-building and an antique tractor show. There will also be live music from the Whitewater Bluegrass Band, plus barbecue, kettle corn, fudge and more. All ages are welcome – no admission charged.
