National Strawberry Sundae Day

What better day for National Strawberry Sundae Day than the 7th of July, right? We did the hard work of researching (ahem *sampling*) the most unique strawberry sundaes in Cape Girardeau, and this is what we discovered!

Cape’s Cream of the Crust is an old fashioned ice cream parlor with homemade ice cream crafted from recipes found in an early 1900’s cookbook. Charlie Bertrand, the proprietor of Cape’s Cream of the Crust and Spanish Street Mercantile, his antique store next door, carries three flavors – chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Charlie’s strawberry sundae (pictured above) is served in a heavy glass sundae dish, and features his heavenly-on-its-own strawberry ice cream topped with strawberry sauce and whipped cream. This sundae is a strawberry lover’s dream come true! The atmosphere is complete with vintage soda fountain shake mixers and a retro ice cream toppings bar.  Strawberry sundae or not – you can also get an old-fashioned malt, shake or phosphate soda – don’t skip Cape’s Cream of the Crust.

Andy’s Frozen Custard has a fun selection of strawberry sundaes. The Straw-ana has vanilla custard topped with fresh sliced strawberries and bananas, and a “hot” Straw-ana features the addition of hot fudge. You’ll want to order this sundae with the hot fudge – its outstanding. On Andy’s seasonal menu and featured currently is the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae, with vanilla custard, a generous hunk of shortcake and strawberry sauce. It gets even more delicious towards the bottom, when the custard, shortcake and strawberry sauce melt together. Yum!

We hope that you have very sweet Strawberry Sundae Day! Leave us a comment below and tell us about your favorite strawberry sundae and we’ll enter you to win a $10 Andy’s giftcard!

This is not a comprehensive listing of restaurants that offer strawberry sundaes in Cape Girardeau, just a sampling of the spots that have particularly unique selections in honor of National Strawberry Sundae Day.
