National Peach Ice Cream Day

Seeing peaches start to appear at both of Cape Girardeau’s farmer’s markets makes me so happy, and not just to bite into a fresh, juicy peach…they also announce the upcoming arrival of peach ice cream at Cape’s Cream of the Crust.

Charlie Bertrand, the proprietor of Spanish Street Mercantile and Cape’s Cream of the Crust (also Chief-Maker-of-the-Ice-Cream)whipped up nine gallons of peachy deliciousness this week. This seasonal treat is only made at the height of peach season. “We cut down on the cinnamon this year,” Charlie noted, “and we used local peaches from Pioneer Orchard.”

RUN, don’t walk (but save some for me) to Cape’s Cream of the Crust and get a homemade waffle cone full of peach ice cream. It’s only right to do justice National Peach Ice Cream Day (that’s today!) with a cone of peachy goodness from Cape’s Cream of the Crust!

Cape’s Cream of the Crust is open Monday – Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon – 5 p.m.
