Get Into the Holiday Spirit!

Many of us have traditions that help get us into the holiday spirit: decorating the tree together as a family, baking Christmas cookies, buying new Christmas pajamas….but if you need some help this year, we’ve assembled some festive and fun ideas.

First up, grab a hot cocoa, hop into your sleigh and parade around town gazing at the twinkling holiday lights! Start at Cape County Park North where you’ll witness a light display that began in 1987. Don’t forget to tune into Christmas music along the way!

Next, head to downtown Cape, taking in the lit Christmas wreaths along Broadway. You’ll want to stop for photos at the 30-foot Christmas tree with over 20,000 twinkling lights in the courtyard of Vasterling Suites. Then, turn down Main Street for a tradition that’s been around more than 70 years – the Hutson’s Big Sandy Superstore Christmas window, always sure to delight all ages.

If being outside is more your speed, join the Mary Mingle 5K on December 11! This walker and runner-friendly event supports the Community Counseling Center to restore, bring hope, motivate and inspire healing to regional mental health clients. The race begins near Mary Janes Bourbon and Smokehouse and finishes at Minglewood Brewery. And, there’s an award for the ugliest Christmas sweater! Registration is available on race day.

For holiday tunes, check out all the events coming to the SEMO River Campus, including the percussion ensemble’s family holiday concert also on December 11 at the Bedell Performance Hall, 10:30 am and 2:00 pm. Admission is FREE!

Stay tuned to VisitCape’s Event Page for even more things to do when you visit or have visitors!
