Geocaching in Cape Girardeau

Explore Cape Girardeau in a whole new way with geocaching! This  outdoor treasure hunting game uses GPS-enabled devices to navigate to specific coordinates where you can earth a geocache (container) hidden at that spot.  Geocaches are everywhere in Cape Girardeau – Geocaching.com lists over 300 in the 63701 zip code – and they each have a unique focus that adds to your scavenger hunt.

Sounds like fun….so how do you geocache?  A membership is free at Geocaching.com, and their app for Apple and Android devices is very handy.  The app automatically populates nearby geocaches to explore, such as the “Common Pleas Community” geocache by the Common Pleas Courthouse.  Use clues from locations inside and nearby the park to track down the geocache, while learning about the history of the spot and enjoying the scenic views of the Mississippi River from atop the hill.

The “Land of Lorimier” geocache uses the Mississippi River Tales Mural to help you find the right hiding place, and “A Rose by Any Other Name” sends you through the Rose Garden inside Capaha Park with a mission.

There are so many adventures to be had and new places to explore, and Geocaching adds a fun, game-like element. If you’re looking for a new way to enjoy Cape Girardeau, check out geocaching…who knows what you’ll find!
