Family Fun in Cape Girardeau

You don’t have to go far for family fun you’ll remember all year long in Cape Girardeau, with things to do from your littlest kiddos to your most grown up teenagers and everyone in between.

Kick off your weekend on Saturday morning with the Cape Riverfront Market, where there’s much more to do than shop for veggies.  In addition to the freshest locally grown produce around, the market also offers baked goods, arts and crafts plus engaging demonstrations, live music and food trucks offering breakfast tacos, homemade donuts and more.

After your trip to the market, head over to the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center where your kids can get hands on with nature at the indoor beehive, the walk-through beaver’s dam, the animal print tracing areas and much more.  Hiking backpacks and fishing poles and bait are available for check out free of charge, and provide a whole new way to enjoy the pond and trail system around the center.

Soak in a quiet afternoon after lunch at the Cape Public Library.  The kid’s department has sensory boards, a puppet theater, toys and a small playspace for the smaller set, and teens have their own space with an XBox 360 and a Wii.

You’ll have a tough time convincing your kids its time to go after a few hours at Discovery Playhouse: A Children’s Museum.  They can shop at the grocery store, pretend to be a teller at the bank, splash in the water garden, take care of babies in the nursery and much more.  The infant play space is expansive, and the second floor of exhibits aimed towards ages 10+ opens soon.

Relax at your hotel, vacation rental or campground – Cape Girardeau has a wide variety of places to rest your head!  Need to refuel?  Choose from over 130 restaurants.

Sunday morning, get up close and personal with over 50 species of exotic animals at Lazy L Safari Park.  This unique walk through zoo is a great place to stroll through at your own pace, reading about the different animals in their cozy habitats.  The petting zoo and Parakeet Jungle are fun extras if your kiddos are feeling brave enough to pet the animals!

Bust out the swimsuits for buckets of fun at Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center Sunday afternoon!  Shady umbrellas with lounge chairs scattered throughout this water park give you a base of operations as your adventurous teens hurtle down the mat racer slides, the 259 foot long triple drop slide and the flume slides.  They’ll also enjoy the vortex pool, and all ages love the 700 foot lazy river.  Your tiniest tykes can party on the splash pad and in the watery playground with zero depth entry.
