Family Friendly Frights

Halloween is approaching, and it’s time for ghosts, witches and things that go bump in the night.  We’ve found some slightly spooky events that are perfect for families with kids looking for a little less fright!

Halloween Storytelling at Bollinger Mill is appropriate for all ages; listen to scary tales under the stars at this historic site.  Halloween Storytelling takes place October 17 at 7 p.m.; bring lawn chairs or a picnic blanket.

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will be hosting Animal Tales’ Creepy Critters on October 18 at 11 a.m.. This free interactive learning session gives kids the chance to meet and learn about creepy, crawly creatures at this slightly spooky program.

For those with children from ages 2-4, Spooktacular Times will be at the Osage Centre October 22.  Toddlers can enjoy Halloween-themed activities, creative crafts, and snacks; register by October 15 for Spooktacular Times.

Wear your favorite costume & trick-or-treat around the zoo at Boo at the Zoo at Lazy L Safari Park on October 25. Get crafty at the kid’s craft table, pick out a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, try your luck at the rope maze, visit the kiddie corral or the giant tarantula.

On October 25 at 6 p.m., Halloween Hoopla features a costume contest and lots of other fun Halloween activities for kids 12 and under.

Don’t miss an afternoon of frightening fun on October 26 at Pumpkin Palooza, with “mad scientist” experiments, a costume contest, spooky stories, and pumpkin decorating/carving.  BYOP – bring your own pumpkin! Pre-registration required.
