Explore Cape Girardeau during Family Weekend

Southeast Missouri State University’s Family Weekend is almost here, and there’s no better time to explore the town your student calls their home away from home on September 16th, 17th and 18th!

There are dozens of happenings on campus all weekend long; get the full scoop at Semo.edu/FamilyWeekend, or check out their Facebook event. If you want to get off campus and see what Cape Girardeau is all about, local events include the SEMO District Fair, a free outdoor concert, boat rides on the Mississippi River and a car show in downtown Cape Girardeau – full details available here.

Cape Girardeau is packed with locally owned shops selling unique items if you’d like to take your SEMO student shopping.  History buffs will enjoy Trail of Tears State Park (where you can also enjoy the best view of the Mississippi River around, hands down), Bollinger Mill State Historic Site, Crisp Museum and the Glenn House.  If you have younger kiddos in tow, Discovery Playhouse: A Children’s Museum is a hit, as is the Nature Center and Lazy L Safari Park.

A listing of lodging is available here – we recommend booking early to ensure a spot; plan a meal out with your student with a full listing of restaurants here.

Share your adventures both on campus and off!  Tag your pictures with #VisitCape.
