The Fourth of July is coming up, and Cape Girardeau is a great place to celebrate!
Join the re-enactors at Fort D, a Civil War earthenworks fort, as they honor this national holiday with a living history encampment from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Fourth at the Fort is completely free and open to the public. The re-enactors will be outfitted in historically accurate uniforms and will demonstrate rifle and cannon fire. Civilian ladies will complete the scene in their hoopskirts. Flags will be flying proudly.
Fireworks will light up the riverfront starting at around 9:15 p.m. At 8 p.m. the Spirit of America award will be presented in front of the Common Pleas Courthouse with music by the Jerry Ford Patriotic Band. Water and Spanish streets will close early to accommodate those attending the celebration on foot.
Make a three day weekend out of it! The Cape Riverfront Market will be hopping from 8 a.m. – noon on Saturday July 5th, there’s a Super Science drop-in program at the Cape Public Library and the Red House Interpretive Center has a program on pioneer tools and trade…plus the following attractions are open too:
