Celebrate July 4th in Cape Girardeau/ Bicentennial events

Join us in celebration of our nation’s birthday at several events over the weekend!

Fort D, the only remaining one of four Civil War forts that protected the City of Cape Girardeau from Confederate attack, is always a good place to kick off the 4th of July weekend! The soldiers of Fort D celebrated the national holiday by firing their rifles, cannon and proudly flying the flag. Read more about Fort D here.

On Sunday, July 4, celebrate with a spectacular fireworks show at Arena Park! The Great American 4th of July Celebration will take place on July 4, 2021, with the Southeast Missourian Spirit of America Award and a performance by the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band in the Arena Park Grandstands. Set up a lawn chair or picnic blanket at the fairgrounds to view the fireworks show starting at 9:00 pm.

And finally, join us at the A.C. Brase Arena on Sunday, July 4 for the Bicentennial Mural Reveal Celebration. The mural, which consists of panels painted by individuals from around the state, is 12 feet by 30 feet and includes 18 state symbols, the state capitol, and the St. Louis Gateway Arch. Local government dignitaries will be present to help us celebrate the completion of the mural with music, historic information, food trucks and more. Come help us make Missouri History with the Bicentennial Mural Reveal!
