Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

If you live downtown, work downtown, shop downtown, or simply like to visit downtown, you have probably noticed some great and exciting changes over the past few days. Well, that’s because your beautiful city—Cape Girardeau— was preparing to welcome some new art in town. Yes, that’s correct!

Wow, what gorgeous weather it was Friday, April 10, 2015 for the second annual Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition! The turnout was terrific. True, the gorgeous weather may have been a small contributing factor. But let’s face it, the new art is the big and real contributing factor! Don’t you just love art? Well, so does Cape Girardeau, and is so proud to welcome back this event, and the art.

The city of Cape Girardeau welcomed seven new sculptures at the 2015 Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit. These outstanding art sculptures will be displayed downtown—for your viewing pleasure. And boy, what a viewing pleasure it is.

Cape Girardeau was so proud to welcome some of the artists here for the Opening Reception. Although all the artists weren’t able to make it, Cape Girardeau welcomes you anytime! All of the artists’ art is truly magnificent. As you take a walk downtown, you will see art from James Johnson, with his piece Flint Hills DreamerBounnak Thammavong, with his piece SproutKurt Dyrhaug, with his piece Rolling KeelNathan Pierce, with his piece Long ShotMike Baur, with his piece Dance; and Sarah Deppe, with her piece Lacuna. The aforementioned names are among the new art downtown for 2015. A tremendous thank you to the artists for allowing your art to be in our city, and now, your city!

It feels really good to live in a city that displays such magnificent art—it beautifies your city that much more. It should make you proud to say that you are a resident of Cape Girardeau. So, take a stroll with your family, friends, pets, or even by your lonesome and admire the extraordinary art sculptures that are on display just for you. Be sure to take along your phone and/or camera to snap photos of the mind-blowing art sculptures and share on your social media sites—be sure to use the hashtag #capesculpture.

In your free time, walk the exhibit to admire the breathtaking art sculptures. Not very many cities have art/sculptures to beautify their city. Cape Girardeau is fortune enough to have them—all thanks to Mayor Rediger, the artists, and all the other people/organizations involved in the process of bringing such art to such a beautiful city, to your beautiful city—Cape Girardeau. And, the city and residents are extremely thankful and grateful for the art.

What is art? One may ask. Well, if you ask one person, his or her answer is going to differ from the next. There are many definitions to the word art. In my opinion, one definition of art is downtown Cape Girardeau. The sculptures downtown are art. Embrace art!
See you at next year’s exhibit!
