Cabin Fever Busters

We are having a very wintry winter here in Cape Girardeau! If your little ones are bouncing off the walls or if you just need to get out of the house, here are some of our favorite indoor spots to help you kick that cabin fever to the curb!

Cabin Fever Buster #1: Try one of Cape Girardeau’s 120+ restaurants! Nibble your way through our dining options that include Cajun, Greek, Italian, American, Barbeque and more. Give a restaurant or cuisine that’s new to you a shot!

Cabin Fever Buster #2: The kiddos can burn off some serious steam at Orange Monkey. There’s an arcade, bazooka ball, paintball, a zipline and fun inflatables that will keep them busy for hours.

Cabin Fever Buster #3: Crisp Museum has a wonderful video detailing the history of the Southeast Missouri region; the collection of unbroken Native American pottery is second to none, and life on the river throughout the years is also chronicled. Crisp Museum is a free, warm place to spend an afternoon!

Cabin Fever Buster #4: An indoor beaver dam young ones can walk through and an indoor beehive safely encased in plexiglass where you can try to spot the queen bee are just a few of the entertaining activities in the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. It might be too chilly out to enjoy the paved trails and the kids fishing pond that surround the Nature Center, but there is plenty of indoor diversions to enjoy! Be sure to check out the calendar packed with engaging programs for all ages.

Cabin Fever Buster #5: Discovery Playhouse will keep your active little ones busy (and learning, though they’ll be having SO much fun they won’t realize it) all day. Granma Ruth’s Farm gives them a chance to pick “fruit” and to “milk” a “cow”; there’s also a water garden, a dentist’s office, a baby nursery and many more exhibits to discover. The infant crawling area is outstanding too.

Cabin Fever Buster #6: LeBounce is an indoor inflatable bounce house playland, perfect for those aged 2-12. Jumping castles, giant slides, obstacle courses and more await in this 6,000 square foot play area. Your kids will be occupied allll day, and they’ll be tired out when its time to go home!

Cabin Fever Buster #7: Cape Girardeau area wineries are still open throughout the winter, and you could spend a very cozy afternoon and evening next to a roaring fire, sampling local wine and beer and checking out the appetizer menu!

Cabin Fever Buster #8: Bollinger Mill is one of our favorite picnicking spots (that covered bridge over the river is lovely scenery), but the interior tour of the four-story brick and stone mill is a great way to stay out of the cold! The mill dates to the Civil War and was used to grind corn into meal; the succession of three mills that have stood on this site represent more than 200 years of milling history.

Don’t let those wintertime blues get you down….give one of our Cabin Fever Busters a try for an afternoon, day or weekend of indoor entertainment!
