Summer is here and so is the heat, so we rounded up all kinds of good-to-know info on Cape Girardeau’s pools and water parks, plus a few extras just because!

Cape Splash

Cape Splash has it all, from a lazy river to tons of water slides, a watery playground, spray pad, vortex pool and everything in between – plus the brand new Ship Wreck Island – and you can enjoy all of this water park fun daily.  Fun extras at Cape Splash above and beyond their normal operating hours you might enjoy include:

• Twilight hours, every Monday-Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m., where adults get in for the reduced price of $5 ($4 for children and seniors).
• Little Tykes Time June 5 – August 3, every Monday-Thursday from 9:15 – 10:45 a.m.  Kids ages 1-4 have the spray pad all to themselves while swimming lessons are going on. $2 entry for kiddos and adults enter free!
• Preschoolers have their very own Playtime on the Spray Pad and the zero-depth entry Watery Playground on August 18, 25 and September 1 from 10 a.m. – noon; $3 entry for little ones and adults are free.
• Adults only swim for $6, with minimal lines for the slides! June 23, July 7 & 21 and August 4 from 9-11 a.m. each day. Adults also might dig the Adults Only Beach Bash ($6), July 20 from 7:30 – 9 p.m. with pool volleyball and free food.

Start splashing: Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center is open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily (hours are reduced to weekends only on Aug 10). 14+ are $7, children 13 and under and 60+ are $6; under 1 swim for free.  Cape Splash is located at 1565 N. Kingshighway and can be reached at 573-339-6343.

Central Pool

Looking to take a dip without the water park amenities? Central Pool is your swimming hole. Accessible during the winter months when the seasonal insulated bubble keeps the water toasty, this Olympic size pool has lots of deck space with bleachers and umbrellas and a kid’s pool perfect for smaller swimmers. The high dive and diving boards will keep your older more adventurous kids happy, and meter after meter of aqua water keeps everyone cool all summer long.

Start splashing: Recreational Swimming is available Monday – Thursday from 1 – 5 p.m. and 1 – 7 p.m. Friday – Sunday. Adults 14+ swim for $3.25, children 13 and under are $2.50 and 60+ are $2.75. Central Pool is located at 1920 Whitener in Cape Girardeau, and you can reach them at 573-335-4040.

Dennis Scivally Park

Not technically a pool, but the creek in this park is so perfect for outdoor-living kids I couldn’t resist mentioning it; this wide, rocky creek bed is nicely shaded and a really great spot to pass an hour throwing pebbles in the creek and spotting minnows.

Fountain at Courthouse Park (Now known as Ivers Square)

Again, not technically a pool, but littles have such a blast splashing in this pretty fountain during Tunes at Twilight I couldn’t leave it out! This is a nice spot to get your toes wet after you walk downtown for some ice cream – we recommend Creme & Cone inside Spanish Street Mercantile!
