Another Ideal Saturday from the Cape Girardeau CVB

Alyssa Lage, the Director of Sales here at VisitCape, is sharing what an ideal summertime Saturday looks like for her and her family.  Take it away Alyssa!

The weekend starts early at our household. I’m up and out the door for an early morning walk downtown and workout in the back yard by 5:30 am. The kids are both up by 6:30 and we are typically out the door and heading towards the Cape Riverfront Farmers Market by 7:50. We live just two blocks west of the market so the walk down is a breeze. Once at the market, I get my typical summer vegetables and some of the special items that might be there that week. Our four year old requires a donut; I require a berry cream soda. The market is very family friendly and we typically see several people we know when shopping.
After about forty five minutes everyone’s stomachs are rumbling and patience for the market is waning (mainly, with the four year old and four month old- I could stay all morning). We head towards Cup ‘N’ Cork for a cup of coffee, breakfast sandwich (or lunch) and a chocolate milk to go with our son’s donut. Cup ‘N’ Cork is owned and operated by my good friends Tina and Patrick. When we go there we know we will be met with a friendly smile and great food and service.

After fueling up, I head home to get the kids down for their naps and to complete the rest of my Saturday errands. My husband holds down the fort while I head out to a few local shops for some light shopping. I typically head to Stash for great accessories (earrings) and to see what she has that is new and trendy. I’ll pop into Annie Em’s for a hand lotion that my father can not live without. Next up: Antiquing. At Somewhere in Time Paula has a great selection of vintage earrings that I typically spend half an hour sifting through.

Up Broadway is Shoppe LaLa, where I have purchased several furniture pieces for our home: a repurposed mid-century dresser that is our entertainment center and a great buffet for our dining room. She will custom paint anything in her shop for you–you can even bring her pieces you find or have her keep her eye out for something special. Farther up the street is Annie Lauries. I have so many items in my house from Laurie’s shop that I can’t count them all! From major pieces of furniture to small knick knacks on shelves, you can find practically anything you would want here!

Saturday is winding down and it is time to pick up something to grill to go with those farmer’s market vegetables! I head out to the Butcher Block for a great cut of meat- this week- its sirloin steak. YUM. Looks like we are having guests so I pop on over to Primo Vino for some great specialty beer and wine for the evening. With good food from local farmers, great wine from top vineyards around the world and of course, fantastic family and friends our Saturday is winding down nicely.
