Start your weekend on Saturday morning with a donut the size of your head at the Cape Riverfront Market.  Fresh produce and locally produced goods are livened up with musical performances, demos, food trucks and more. Kick back under a shady tree and dig in to that yummy donut.

After the market, head over to the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center and get hands-on with nature with the indoor beehive, an animal print tracing station, and aquariums full of animals native to the Show Me State. Check out a free themed kid’s hiking backpack and hit the trails behind the nature center, or check out a rod, reel and bait and let your little ones toss a line in the kid’s fishing pond.

Recharge at the Cape Public Library, whose children’s section is a wonderland of sensory boards, toys and a play space all surrounded by books.  Teens have their own dedicated space with a gaming system, and there are lots of cushy chairs to sink into while your little ones play away.

The Discovery Playhouse awaits to burn off energy before bedtime! The newly renovated second floor for ages 8-12 includes a Ninja Warrior-esque obstacle course and a planetarium, while the first floor is an entertaining spot for ages 8 and younger with a water garden, a mock grocery story and a sunny infant’s play area.

On Sunday, take a stroll through Lazy L Safari Park, where you’ll find over 50 species of exotic animals, all raised from birth by the family who runs the farm. After your safari adventure, Cape Splash beckons! Your whole family will have buckets of fun at this water park, with racing slides, watery playgrounds for smaller kiddos with a zero-depth entry pool, a splash pad and the brand new Ship Wreck Island in the middle of the lazy river. Take in all the fun in the sun from under one of the colorful Funbrellas. Spend all day and beat the heat!
