Description: Lutheran Family and Children’s Services (LFCS) will be hosting their annual Kentucky Derby Party on Friday, May 4, 2018, at the new Jackson Civic Center. Doors will open at 5 pm. Dinner, catered by Smokehouse 61 will be served at 6:30 pm, the Run for the Roses Horse Race will kick-off the night’s entertainment at 7:30 pm, followed by live music from the local favorite band, Silver Fox. Guests are encouraged to break out their big, bright hats and bow ties to pony up for a good cause. This year’s event will have many favorite activities from past events, but the organization has added some new features as well. . Robert and Mary Gentry, owners of The Corner Store, will have their famous Kentucky Bourbon Balls available for purchase. Kentucky Derby Party will once again feature their Run for the Roses Horse Race, which is one of the big attractions of the night, as well as a large part of this fundraiser. The organization sells local businesses a horse, which they get to name. A video production company then produces a horse race, complete with a voice-over calling the race, naming the horses as they run. The race is then shown on a large video screen at the event. Leading up to the race time, attendees of the Kentucky Derby Party can place bets on the horse they hope to win with Derby Dollars. The Run for the Roses will take place at 7:30 pm, with prizes, including cash, being awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place from those who placed their bets.
