Perched on the banks of a slow-moving creek, Lazy L Safari Park, located at 2763 County Road 618 in rural Cape Girardeau county, is not your typical zoo. The park was initially established in 1988 as a family-owned and operated alternative livestock ranch. After years of fielding questions from local people about the various animals on the ranch, the family decided to open the park to the public and allow visitors to enjoy the animals in a comfortable, safe and natural setting.
Filled with hundreds of exotic animals and over 20 different species, visitors are offered a completely self-guided experience. Visitors can walk through the main barn, petting zoo, animal nursery and park grounds in their own time and at their own pace. Take a stroll along the creek while gazing into the field to watch zebras or antelope graze.
Go on "safari" and feed the pygmy goats, watch baby animals, peer into the reptile aquariums, or check out the emu eggs in our incubator. You won't want to miss the wallabies, kangaroos, tortoises, deer, zebras, camels, llamas, donkeys, porcupines, ibex, aoudads, antelope, sheep, alpacas, rheas, ostrich, birds, reptiles & more! You'll find several benches to use for quiet reflection or animal watching, a gift shop, a picnic shelter, and a snack shop.
Lazy L Safari Park is open daily from Memorial Day-Labor Day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. During the rest of the year, the park is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $5 per person, with children under the age of two free. Group rates are available. Check the website for more information about group tours, birthday party arrangements and admission prices, or call (573) 243-7862. |
