Community Founded: January 4, 1793 (French-Canadian Louis Lorimier given trading permit by the Spanish Governor of Louisana and named Commandant of the newly established Cape Girardeau District.)
City Platted: February 3, 1806 (Bartholomew Cousins, Secretary to Louis Lorimier)
Town Incorporated: July 23, 1808 (Prior to Missouri Statehood)
City Reincorporated: 1843- As a City by Special Act of the MIssouri Legislature
