With hands-on exhibits for all ages, a scientific research laboratory, freshwater aquariums, an indoor wildlife viewing area and an indoor beehive, the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center does an exceptional job of showcasing the diverse natural resource of Southeast Missouri.
Interactive exhibits are on hand, and frequent programs and events are offered for all ages and interests. Fishing poles are available for check out to cast in the kids-only fishing pond, and hiking backpacks filled with activities and information can also be checked out.
Outside the Nature Center, White Oak Trace offers two miles of nature trails that allow visitors to traverse rolling hills marked by sinkholes and hollows and to explore ravines covered with tulip poplar and oak. White Oak Trace connects to Wood Duck Swamp, Maple Hollow Trail and the Cape LaCroix Recreation Trail.
