Shopping in Cape Girardeau: Mantiques

Mantiquing is antiquing for men – and Cape Girardeau is a great place to do it!  Cape’s historic downtown is packed with unique antique shops, and several are stocked with inventory that has special appeal to men.

In the back corner of Pastimes Antiques, you’ll find a carefully curated booth packed with exceptional military items.  Jeff Shrader is the owner of Advanced Guard Militaria, and his expertise as an appraiser on the Antiques Road Show and discerning eye have grown his clientele to include collectors all over the world.  Sabers, helmets, uniforms and extraordinary pieces off of Navy ships and other fixtures fill the space with truly special finds you’ll enjoy perusing.

Spanish Street Mercantile has an incredible selection of antique tools; planers are lined up in long rows along with hammers and other well-loved and well-used items.  Architectural salvage pieces dot the store and add a one-of-a-kind feel to projects around the house, especially the large assortment of antique fireplace mantels and door knobs.

Judith’s Antiques and Gung Ho Militaria has a man cave area packed with beer steins, vintage gas and oil tins, hunting decoys and everything you need to outfit your shop, office or game room.  The militaria side of the shop features uniforms, regalia and army outfitting from a broad time frame.

After a weekend stocking up on manly antiques, sample an authentic German beer (over 20 are always on tap) at the Broadway Biergarten over a one pound Bavarian pretzel or dig in to Cape’s classic barbeque at the Pilot House; and round out your trip with a place to stay.

This is just a small snapshot of the antique and locally owned stores located in Cape Girardeau; get a full listing here.
